What’s the Current State of Digital Marketing?

When we’re so busy focused on our own marketing efforts, it’s hard to know what others are doing in the space, or what the trends are. Smart Insights recently released some great data in The State of Digital Marketing in 2015, so let’s take a look at the highlights.

global internet marketing isn’t going anywhere

A few years ago, fewer people around the world were accessing the Internet, but now mobile has changed that. A whopping 40% of the world’s population is now online, using laptops and desktops, smartphones, tablets, and even game consoles and smart tvs to get there.

As long as there are people online, there are people to market to!

social media is killing it for b2b

Of all the marketing tactics that B2B companies are using, social media is an unquestionable leader, with 92% of brands using it. Other up-and-comers include:

  • eNewsletters
  • Articles and blogs
  • In-person events
  • Case studies
  • Videos
  • Illustrations

email’s not dead yet

Despite people wanting to believe that email was becoming extinct in favor of social media, we’re simply not seeing that just yet. In fact, the study shows that 51% of those surveyed are seeing positive results in improving customer communications and loyalty through email. So take that, skeptics!

a lot of brands are flying by the seat of their pants

I would have expected that more brands would now have a cohesive marketing strategy, but a full 50% don’t. They’re using digital marketing, but without a strategy, which might make for some problems when they don’t get the results they want.
