Why Start a Business

If you’ve been dreaming of becoming a business owner, I want to ask you a question:

What’s stopping you?

I know, I know. You’ve got the usual excuses. Believe me, I’ve heard them all:

  • I don’t have the money
  • It’s not a good time
  • I don’t know where to start

You’ll always find an excuse not to start a business. But the truth is: no entrepreneur ever felt completely ready or even competent at starting a business. It’s one of those things that’s better to just dive in and figure it out as you go along.

In case you need a little inspiration, here are my reasons why you should start a business this year:

1. You Want To

Your passion and desire should be reason enough to dive in. You’ve thought about it long enough, and you’ll never give up the dream. And how will you ever know if you’re cut out to run a business unless you try?

2. Now is As Good a Time as Any

There’s no ideal time to start a business (admittedly, if you’ve just experienced a major life event like marriage or having a baby, it might not be the best time). You’ll never feel completely prepared. I was thrown into being an entrepreneur, and here I am, 8 years later, giving you advice!

3. You Can Make a Difference

Whether your business idea is to start a restaurant or a nonprofit, you’ll impact the world in some positive way. When you work in Corporate America, you’re limited to what your role at your company permits you to do, but as a business owner, you call the shots.

4. You Don’t Need Deep Pockets to Get Started

Sure, it’s ideal if you have tens of thousands of dollars set aside for your new business endeavor, but it’s not always necessary, especially if you plan to work from home or be the only employee for a while. Many entrepreneurs start a business while continuing at their day jobs until the business picks up enough to pay the bills.

5. You Provide a Unique Perspective

Even if there are millions of players in the field you want to launch your business in, no one can provide exactly what you can. You’ve got your own experiences and ideas that will make your business unlike any other.

Stop making excuses and start executing on that dream of starting a business that you’ve had for years. You might be surprised how successful you become!
