Do You Know How People Find You Online?

Consider your website the final destination for weary travelers looking for a solution to their problem. Each pilgrim takes a different path to find you. Knowing what those paths are can help you get people to your site faster. Do you know how people are getting there?

Look at the Map

Most people find a website by searching for something online, if they don’t already have the URL to your site. So as an example, for Bizlaunch, someone might find the site by typing in “small business webinar” or something similar.

If you’re not appearing in search results for keywords you think you should be, it’s time to look at your SEO efforts and make some changes. You also want to knock down some of the competition from those search results. You do that by offering great content on your site and having other people link to you.

Other Routes to the Same Destination

Ranking for keywords isn’t the only way to drive traffic to your site.

Guest blogging. By writing useful content for other established blogs, you can reach a new audience. You’ll have the opportunity to include a link back to your website in your bio, which makes Google happy and lets readers learn more about you.

Business directories. The more places your website is listed online, the more traffic you can drive there. Look for industry-specific directories, as well as local business groups and Chambers of Commerce that post links to their members’ sites.

Social media. Many people use social sites like Twitter and Facebook as discoverability tools. If you’re actively using social channels, make sure you’ve included a link back to your site in your bio.

Comments. If you notice, every blog out there gives you the opportunity to share your thoughts on a given post. You can include your website or blog link when you comment, which also helps people connect.

Online ads. Whether they’re pay-per-click or banner ads, online advertising can provide additional exposure for your website. Decide on your budget and choose the platform that’s best for you needs. LinkedIn lets you target professionals based on their interests and demographics. Google AdWords allows you to target specific keywords people are searching for.
