Through the Government of Ontario’s Summer Company Program, students across the province have the opportunity to start and run their own business during the summer. Ivana Pejakovic is one of a few individuals selected to be her own boss this summer. Thanks to Richmond Hill Small Business Enterprise Center, her business will be located in the Richmond Hill area.
Ivana has developed an 8-week summer program designed to teach teens about taking responsibility and ownership for their lives as they learn to set relevant, yet ambitious goals. The overall purpose of the program is to empower teens by teaching them about the importance of goal setting. The program offers an important success tool teens may use throughout their life. Some of the program benefits include:
- Improved knowledge & understanding of goal setting
- Awareness of leadership skillsLearn to utilize personal strengths/ weaknesses
- Increased love for & belief in oneself
- Increased motivation & success-orientation
- Learn about their own identity
Teens, 14 to 19 years of age, are invited to join this program as they are about to start their “grown up” lives and will soon be responsible for themselves and their life. Each teen will come in with personal weaknesses (e.g., insecurity due to a false belief) that will be addressed and related to goal achievement. Teens will learn to create long-term and short-term goals, to set goals that are specific and goals that can be measured to help evaluate their progress. Ivana provides an educational, caring, and supportive environment to allow teens to develop confidence and a sense of control with respect to goal setting and their overall life. Early exposure to the significance of setting goals can plant seeds for success.
