Canadians are getting older

Statistics Canada have just released the results of the 2006 census. There are some interesting statistics that could change the way we do business. So go and read them.

Here are a few interesting details:

  • 1 in 7 Canadians is a senior. 4,335,255 persons aged 65 years and over, an 11.5% increase from 2001. More than half (56%) were women

  • Children aged 14 and under declined 2.5% from 2001 to 5,579,840 in 2006

  • There are 1,167,310 people aged 80 years and over, up 25% from 2001, the second fastest increase of all age groups.
